ABSTRACT: Over the last four years, SARS-CoV-2 has undergone rapid evolution, with the repeated emergence of new viral variants that often partially escape immunity from prior exposures and vaccinations. I will discuss the dynamics of this evolution, and show how deep mutational scanning can be used to interpret and to some extent forecast the virus’s evolution.
